Welcome to the Macintosh Family Diagnostic Program. The purchase of this Starter Kit includes your first year's subscription to the Update Program. Updates are posted on-line, and may also be provided on CD-ROMs, depending on product release schedules. After one year, you must renew your subscription to continue receiving diagnostic software updates.
Updates are posted to the Service Diagnostics web page on "Service Source Online". The URL for this site is: http://service.info.apple.com. This is a secure web site. Refer to "Online News" section of the Service Source 2.5 CD for the current user name and password. After logging in, select "Service Diagnostics" from the Technical Resources pull-down menu.
This Starter Kit includes a CD-ROM labeled "MacTest™ Pro for 680x0-based Macintosh computers (February 1996)", which will boot and diagnose any 680x0-based Macintosh starting with the Mac Plus. The CD-ROM labeled "MacTest Pro for Power Macintosh (December 1998)" will boot and diagnose any Power Macintosh released prior to the introduction of the PowerPC G3-based models. Diagnostics for Power Macintosh G3 systems and for iMac® are included on a third CD.
The diagnostic tests on the CDs are arranged in folders based on the type of Macintosh computer or peripheral you need to test. Please refer to the electronic document "How to use this CD" to get started. Then review the User's Guides located in the Documentation folders on the CDs. These guides provide detailed information on how to use the diagnostic tests. The most up-to-date information about the current release is always included in the READ ME and VERSION INFO files on the CDs.
Disk images are provided on the CDs so that you can make diskette copies, under the conditions stipulated in your software license agreement with Apple®. Bootable "MTP Emergency" disks can be made, to boot virtually every Macintosh from the Mac Plus through the latest Power Macintosh G3 computers. The Starter Kit also contains the CD-ROM Test Disc and the loopback plug that are required to perform certain diagnostic tests.
